Managing Chromebook Settings in the Portal
Chromebooks in the Portal function similarly to Computers, but they have their own check-in behavior and panic settings. This guide walks you through how to manage them.
1. Navigating to Your Chromebooks
-
Log in to the 911Cellular Portal.
-
On the left-hand menu, select Manage Devices > Chromebooks.

Once a Chromebook completes a check-in with a matching BSSID, it will appear in this list along with its last known zone and check-in details.
2. Understanding Chromebook Check-In Logic
As long as the device connects to a network whose BSSID is tied to your institution:
-
It will check in with the Portal
-
It will update its zone
-
It will receive new instructions and configuration
-
It can send a panic alert (if Panic Enabled)

3. Choosing Which Chromebooks Should Be “Panic Enabled”
Most Organizations prefer that only certain Chromebooks are allowed to trigger panic alerts—typically those assigned to staff or designated support roles.
To configure this:
-
In the Chromebooks list, select a device.
-
Locate the Panic Enabled toggle.
-
Turn Panic Enabled ON for any Chromebook whose user should be able to initiate an alert.
4. Panic Logic: Chromebook vs. Computer Panic Button (CPB)
Chromebooks work very similarly to the Computer Panic Button (CPB). They use the same incident types, follow the same notification routing, and rely on the same configuration areas in the Portal. This guide walks you through how they appear in the system, how they check in, and how to configure panic settings for your organization.
Chromebooks inherit their configuration from Shared Configuration, including incident types.
If Enabled on Computers is toggled ON, they use the same incident types used for Computer Panic Button activations.
Under Methods of Sending, Chromebooks must be treated as a Computer.
This ensures that panic notifications from Chromebooks follow the same workflow and notification paths as CPB.

Finally, select the zone the Chromebook will be in and assign the appropriate recipient groups.
