  1. The device can remain powered and functional during cleaning.
  2. Apply the cleaning or disinfecting solution to a clean, lint-free cloth. Do not spray liquids directly onto the device.
  3. Wipe all exterior surfaces, paying particular attention to the buttons and areas frequently touched.
  4. Do not allow liquid to pool around seams, buttons, openings, charging contacts, or other openings.
  5. Allow the disinfectant to remain wet for the manufacturer's recommended contact time.
  6. Allow the device to air dry completely before returning it to service.

Approved Cleaning & Disinfecting Agents

The following agents are generally compatible with the enclosure materials for routine surface disinfection:

Disinfectant Type Compatibility Status
Alcohol-based wipes (Isopropyl or ethyl alcohol) Generally acceptable
Quaternary ammonium disinfectant wipes Generally acceptable
Hydrogen peroxide disinfectant wipes Generally acceptable
Bleach (sodium hypochlorite) wipes May be used with caution. Repeated exposure may discolor or degrade plastics and polyurethane coatings over time. Wipe away residue if recommended by the disinfectant manufacturer.

Note: Users should always follow the disinfectant manufacturer's instructions regarding concentration and contact time.

Products & Chemicals That Should Not Be Used

Do not use:

  • Acetone, MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone), Toluene, Xylene, Paint thinner, Lacquer thinner, Gasoline, Mineral spirits
  • Abrasive cleaners, Scouring pads, Steel wool
  • Highly concentrated industrial solvents
  • High-pressure water, Steam cleaners, Ultrasonic cleaners
  • Automated washer/disinfectors, Steam sterilizers, or autoclaves

Water Resistance & Contact Times

  • Required Contact/Dry Time: Disinfectant contact times are not specified directly by the device manufacturer. Follow the disinfectant manufacturer's required wet contact time and allow the device to air dry completely before use. Ensure no residual liquid remains around openings or buttons.
  • Waterproof Rating: The Badger+ wearable panic alarm is not waterproof and should never be submerged in any liquid. Never spray liquids directly onto the device and use only a damp—not saturated—cloth. Prevent liquid from entering openings, seams, charging contacts, or around buttons.

Recommended Cleaning Frequency

Clean and disinfect:

  • Whenever the device becomes visibly soiled.
  • Cleaning after exposure to contaminants.
  • Cleaning before reassignment to another user.
  • For shared devices used across multiple shifts, clean and disinfect between users in accordance with facility infection prevention policies.
  • Healthcare facilities should follow their organization's infection prevention procedures regarding cleaning frequency.
