How to Prepare for a BadgeR+ Wi-Fi Credential Change

BadgeR+ devices depend on the Wi-Fi credentials they were configured to use. If your organization changes the password or authentication credentials for that network, affected devices may stop connecting until they are reconfigured. Plan credential changes carefully so devices are not returned to service until connectivity has been verified.

Before you change the Wi-Fi credentials

1. Account for all affected BadgeR+ devices. Gather devices before the change whenever possible so they can be updated and verified in a controlled window.

2. Identify the Wi-Fi network and authentication method currently used by the devices.

3. Confirm that an administrator has access to the 911Cellular Portal and the BadgeR+ pairing workflow.

4. Schedule a maintenance window and tell affected users when BadgeR+ coverage may be temporarily unavailable.

5. Have charging cables available and charge low-battery devices before beginning.

6. Do not rotate the credentials while devices are widely dispersed unless you have a documented recovery plan for every device.

Reconfigure each BadgeR+ after the credential change

1. Put the BadgeR+ into Pairing Mode. Press and hold the Battery Button for about 6 seconds until the Status Indicator Light begins blinking blue.

2. Open the pairing workflow in the 911Cellular Portal. Navigate to Manage Devices → Wireless Panic Buttons → Button Registration, then select Pair Wireless Device.

3. Select the BadgeR+. When the browser shows the available device, select BadgeR+ and continue the pairing process.

4. Complete the Wi-Fi configuration. Use the pairing workflow to configure the device with the current credentials for the approved Wi-Fi network.

5. Confirm the device details. Verify that the device name, user or assignment, and other identifying information are still correct before returning the device to service.

6. Verify connectivity. Press and release the Battery Button. Current BadgeR+ documentation describes four green blinks as the successful connection result.

7. Confirm the device appears active in the Portal. Verify that the device is present in the Active Buttons view and is checking in as expected.

Before returning devices to users
  • The correct device is assigned to the correct person or location.
  • The Battery Button connection test is successful.
  • Battery level is adequate for use.
  • The device is checking in normally.
  • The device has been tested in representative areas of the facility where it will be used.
After the network change
  • Monitor the fleet for devices that do not resume normal check-ins.
  • Investigate any low-battery or lack-of-check-in alerts.
  • Record which devices were successfully updated.
  • Keep any device that cannot complete a successful connection test out of service until it is corrected.
Important

Do not assume a BadgeR+ is ready for use simply because it powers on. Verify network connectivity before returning it to service. Avoid resetting a BadgeR+ unless you are an administrator and the reset is required for troubleshooting; a reset returns the device to an unconfigured state and it must be configured again before it can send alerts.
