Screen Takeover: Customizable Audio — Setup & Admin Guide

Screen Takeover: Customizable Audio

The Customizable Audio feature for Screen Takeover allows organizations to play a custom audio alert whenever a screen takeover notification is delivered to a Windows machine. Audio plays automatically — even if the computer's sound is muted or set to silent — ensuring critical alerts are never missed.

Administrators upload a single custom audio file, set how long it plays, and the system handles the rest.

Custom Audio Upload

  • Upload one custom audio file to be used across all screen takeover notifications
  • Supported formats: .aac .mp3 .wav .m4a .ogg .wma

Configurable Playback Duration

  • Administrators set the exact number of seconds the audio plays when a notification is triggered
  • Supports both brief alert tones and longer alert sounds

Mandatory Silence Override

  • Audio plays regardless of whether the computer is muted or set to silent
  • Silence override is always enforced and cannot be disabled
  • Guarantees critical notifications are heard without exception

Admin-Only Management

  • Only users with administrative privileges can upload or manage custom audio settings
  • Settings apply across the entire organization

Platform Support

  • Currently supported on Windows machines only

How It Works

  1. An Administrator uploads a custom audio file and sets the playback duration
  2. A screen takeover notification is triggered and delivered to the device
  3. The custom audio plays automatically
    • System sound and mute settings are overridden
    • Audio plays for the configured duration

Setup: Uploading a Custom Audio File

Step 1: Go to the CEB Configuration page: 👉 https://portal.publicsafetycloud.net/manage-settings/ceb-configuration

Step 2: Scroll down to the Screen Takeover Audio Configuration section.

Step 3: Click Upload Audio File.

Step 4: Select a supported audio file from your device:

  • Accepted formats: .aac, .mp3, .m4a, .ogg, .wma, .wav

Step 5: Set the desired Screen Takeover Duration (in seconds).

Step 6: Click Save Changes.

ⓘ Once uploaded, the custom audio will be used for all screen takeover notifications after the machine's next check-in.

Troubleshooting

Audio not playing during a screen takeover?

  • Confirm a custom audio file has been uploaded and saved in the CEB Configuration settings
  • Verify the playback duration is set to a value greater than 0
  • Ensure the notification was delivered to a Windows machine (this feature is not supported on other platforms)

Audio file not uploading?

  • Check that the file format is one of the supported types: .aac, .mp3, .m4a, .ogg, .wma, .wav
  • Confirm you are logged in with an account that has Administrator privileges
