Spark Device Troubleshooting & FAQs

Q: My audio doesn’t play after uploading.

  • Make sure the file is .MP3 or .WAV.

  • Click Update/Save to re-sync and confirm the Last Sync time changed.

  • Verify the Incident Type you’re testing matches the Action.

  • Ensure Duration > 0 (audio won’t play if the Action’s duration is zero).

Q: What happens if I upload two audios for the same Incident Type?
Only one audio will play for a given Incident Type. If multiple Actions for the same Incident Type have audio, the most recently saved (or last evaluated) audio takes precedence.

Q: How does audio length interact with Duration?

  • If Duration < audio length → playback stops when Duration ends.

  • If Duration > audio length → audio loops until Duration ends
    (e.g., a 5-second siren tone repeats for 180 seconds).

Q: Can I stop the audio before the duration ends?
Not yet. Once it starts, it plays for the full duration. (Future versions may support stopping on event dismissal.)

Q: Is there a limit on the number of Actions (“overlap”)?
There’s no hard limit on Actions—you can create as many as needed.
However, avoid overlapping Actions that control the same relay for the same Incident Type with different timings. Prefer one Action per relay per incident to prevent confusing behavior.

Q: Is there a file-size limit? No strict limit, but avoid any files larger than 10Mg.   Test playback on your computer first before uploading.

Q: Do I need the SD card for this? The SD card you received with your deivce must be inserted or it will have no firmware and be inoperable

Best Practices

  • One audio per Incident Type. Keep a single authoritative audio Action.

  • One Action per relay per incident. This prevents timing conflicts.

  • Be cautious with Incident Type = Any (it can override specific incidents).

  • If audio should outlast (or differ from) the relay timing, create an action on an unused relay

  • Normalize audio volume so spoken alerts are clear over PA systems.

  • To change audio later, delete the Action it’s attached to, then add a new Action with the new file.
