Understanding BadgeR+ Low-Battery and Missed Check-In Alerts
BadgeR+ device-health notifications are designed to help administrators identify devices that may need attention before an emergency. Two common notifications are low-battery alerts and missed-check-in alerts.
These notifications do not mean the same thing, and neither one by itself proves that the device is defective.
Low-battery alerts
A low-battery alert means the 911Cellular system received battery information from the device and that the reported battery level crossed the configured low-battery threshold used by the platform.
The important point is that the device was able to communicate battery data to the system. A low-battery alert therefore indicates a power condition, not necessarily a connectivity failure.
Recommended first steps:
• Charge the BadgeR+ using the charging equipment approved for that device model.
• After charging, press the device’s status/battery button and confirm that the battery indicator responds.
• Confirm that the device checks in again and that the battery reading improves in the portal.
• If the device repeatedly reports low battery after being fully charged, inspect the device and contact Support.
Missed-check-in alerts
A missed-check-in alert means the 911Cellular system has not recently received an expected device update.
A missed check-in does not identify the root cause. Possible causes can include:
• Depleted battery.
• Device outside the configured Wi-Fi coverage area.
• Wi-Fi credentials or network settings changed.
• Network outage or blocked communication.
• Device unable to reach the 911Cellular service.
• Provisioning, authorization, firmware, or configuration issue.
• Physical device problem.
For that reason, a missed-check-in alert should be treated as a request to verify the device rather than as proof that the hardware has failed.
What to check after a missed-check-in alert
1. Locate the BadgeR+ and check whether it powers on.
2. Press the status/battery button and observe the status lights.
3. Confirm the device is within the expected Wi-Fi coverage area.
4. Verify that the organization’s Wi-Fi configuration has not recently changed.
5. Review the device’s Last Check-in and Last Known Zone in the portal.
6. If available, perform an approved device test in the intended coverage area.
7. If the device still does not check in, contact 911Cellular Support.
Why a device may generate a missed-check-in alert instead of a low-battery alert
Low-battery notifications depend on the device successfully reporting battery information.
If a device cannot connect to Wi-Fi or cannot reach the server, it may be unable to report its current battery state. In that situation, the first visible warning may be a missed-check-in notification rather than a low-battery notification.
Who receives these alerts?
Recipients depend on the customer’s configuration and the device type. Notifications can be directed to device owners or contacts and to administrators who have the relevant wireless-panic-button notification preferences and zone scope.
If you are receiving alerts for devices you do not manage, ask an administrator to review your portal notification preferences and zone responsibilities.
Does a missed check-in mean the BadgeR+ cannot send an emergency alert?
A BadgeR+ must have enough power and a working connection to the configured network and 911Cellular service to submit a wireless panic event. A missed-check-in alert therefore deserves prompt attention.
However, the notification itself does not prove whether the problem is battery, network, provisioning, or hardware. The device should be physically checked and tested according to your organization’s procedures.
What information should I send to Support?
Include:
• Organization / institution name.
• Device name.
• MAC address or device identifier.
• Last Check-in time.
• Last Known Zone.
• Current battery reading, if available.
• What happens when the status/battery button is pressed.
• Whether the device works while connected to power.
• Any recent Wi-Fi or network changes.
