Explaining the difference between private, public and Watch Group geofence(s)
While creating geofences, you must select from one of three options:
- Private
- Public
- Watch Group
Private geofences allow you to restrict access to app users who have registered directly with your organization. This ensures that only authorized individuals within your organization can trigger alerts from within the private geofence.
If a user from a different organization activates an alert within your private geofence, the system will treat it as if the activation happened from outside the geofence. In such situations, the system will prompt the end user to dial emergency services, such as 911 in the United States.
If you set up a public geofence, it will be shared with all 911Cellular clients. In this case, when users who visit your campus trigger an alert, it will not prompt them to dial emergency services like 911. Instead, it will follow the rules you have established for the alert within the geofence.
Watch Group geofences allow organizations to divide their population into different groups and apply customized alerting rules to each group. For instance, if you want members of your organization who travel into the community to have additional geofences compared to those who remain around your facilities, you should create Watch Group geofences. This way, you can ensure that each group receives appropriate alerts based on their specific needs and locations.
