There are two main reasons why you might receive a Location Prompt:
- WIFI-Connected Machines: If there are no Wireless Access Points uploaded to the 911Cellular Portal, or if there are Access Points that were not included in your upload, end users might receive a prompt asking them to select their Location. These may be BSSIDs that were missed during an Access Point upload, or they may be Rogue Access Points (unauthorized); please verify their legitimacy before assigning them a location in the portal.
To prevent end-users from receiving WIFI Prompts, Administrators can toggle off the "WIFI Prompt User" feature on this page: Custom Configurations. - Machines connected via Ethernet is not at a saved location: If your CPB is connected via ethernet and its location was not pre-added to the 911Cellular Portal Machine List, the user will receive a location prompt. Once a location is selected, it will be archived as a "Saved Location." If an Administrator removes this machine from the portal, Saved Locations will be deleted as well.
Another reason CPB connected via Ethernet might receive a location prompt is if the machine is connected to a new ethernet source with a different IPV6 address (such as a new network switch). The 911Cellular System is able to archive multiple Saved Locations for each computer.
Please note that Saved Locations are unique to each machine, this data is not shared between computers.
For end users that work remotely, check out our Remote Feature which disables location prompts when users are working away from the office.
For users that work on a VPN or other Adapters, check out this article on how to blacklist adapters to prevent the location prompt from appearing.
